Ice Water in the Veins is a Good Thing

Two games in two days, two completely different, yet extremely impressive performances, and most importantly two wins - Jonny Flynn is impressive and as the Post Standard notes, certainly "On the Spot." Here are a few of quick thoughts on Syracuse's close win against St. Joseph's last night.

* Two nights ago Flynn scored 28 points, last night he scored 5 - the one constant - he doesn't force his offense. Two nights ago he only took 13 shots - last night when things weren't falling, he took 6. If the look is there, he'll take it, but if it's not, he content to get the ball to others, which is the hallmark of a true point guard. He may be the best point guard to set foot on the hill since the General left all those years ago.

* Donte Greene was more aggressive last night on both ends, this is a very good thing.

* Coach Boeheim is in the Hall of Fame, he's won a National Championship, I love the man, he knows what he's doing (take notes Robinson) - but I don't remember a single sub playing in the second half. Call me crazy, but he's going to need to get some more players some PT, and soon.

* In thinking about my previous point, I'm guessing he's trying to avoid any Drexel or Witchita State type losses, because we all know how that worked out last year, so he's playing guys he trusts the most. I do hope that some of the other guys, including the Belgian Waffle, get some meaningful minutes soon.

* I REALLY like Rick Jackson. Patience Cuse fans, patience, he's going to be very good and he's going to be here for a few years, but there are good things in his future.

* Boeheim screams at Paul Harris more than any other player on the team - he's obviously riding him because he thinks he can be even better. I'm just glad Jonny Flynn and Paul Harris are on this team - because they are players that would kill SU in the past.

* A win is a win - and it feels good. As I said yesterday, this is going to be one fun season.

FINALLY A CENTER WHO "GETS IT"

Arinze Onuaku:

"I just tried to establish myself," he said. "Since (Monday) I've just been hearing about 'Ahmad Nevins, Ahmad Nevins, Ahmad Nevins' and how good (the St. Joseph's forward) is. We just had to put the pressure on him on the offensive end and make him work on defense. If we could make him work at both ends of the floor, that is to my advantage."

I have never been more thankful for a senior class to be gone!!
