Big Game For the Cuse Tonight

Syracuse makes a much anticipated road trip outside of New York State tonight for their game against the Virginia Cavaliers. The schedule has been debated and discussed to death, so there's no sense rehashing it, but the fact remains, right or wrong, that perception is reality and the national media perceives Syracuse as unwilling to travel in non-conference games. For the last few years, other than trips to Madison Square Garden or a road trip to Buffalo, that's basically been true. Tonight is a small step towards changing that perception.

With 2 losses already this season - to teams that subsequently took bad losses themselves - getting a W on the road is really important, both in terms of post-season implications and to build the toughness of this young team. I don't really think a win will do much to boost their confidence, that's one thing these young guys do not lack.

As usual, Mike Waters has some good stuff up about the game tonight, so I thought I'd take a look and see how things look from the Virginia side.

- The Roanoke Times says the Orange Will Provide a Challenge for the Cavs. The story notes that last year the Orange played, "A staggering 22 home games."

- The Richmond Times Dispatch also takes note of the Syracuse road trip in their story, A Date Outside the Dome. The story contrasts Syracuse's scheduling philosophy with that of Dave Leitao and focuses on the NCAA tournament implications.

-The Daily Press talks about how Virginia hopes to Slash the Zone, and notes Virginia's shooting prowess. After reading that story, here's hoping Boeheim mixes up the defense tonight.

- The Washington Post has another story on scheduling strategy and how the two schools differ, see a pattern developing here people?

Needless to say, tonight is an important game for the guys wearing the road jerseys.
