Top 20 Orangemen of the HumpIdiot Era

Summer camp is upon us and the GRob babble has begun. We at T3I are going to take you to the Northwestern season opener via our countdown of the Top 20 Football Orangemen of the HumpIdiot Era.

You may remember this spring we conducted a similar countdown with the hoops team. Well, we've expanded our panel and along with your favorite Three Idiots (Russianator, Boss, and Champ) we've invited the good guys over at The SportHump to take part along with friend and honorary idiot, The Captain. A closer look at your distinguished panelists:

Russianator: I have plenty of SU football memories with this guy, all of which involve trays of overpriced Dome Foam. However, easily my favorite Cuse football memory with him was our road trip to Boston College in 2004. Final score: Diamond Ferri- 43, Boston College- 17.

Boss: Picking a favorite Cuse football memory with Boss is tough. However, I'll go back to 1998 (it's really been 10 years????) when we swarmed the field after "McNabb to Brominski" and a 28-26 Cuse victory. By the way, P&D had one of the ballsiest 4th down calls during that drive with this QB draw. Two weeks later we were on the field again celebrating a Big East Championship and trip to the Orange Bowl with a 66-13 thrashing of Miami. During one of those swarms I remember tackling Boss on the old Dome turf. Fun times.

Captain: The Captain is a long time friend of the Idiots and a current resident of the state of Pennsylvania. Back in 1994 we witnessed the Orangemen mount an impressive comeback against Oklahoma. Down 24-0 at one point, the Orange took the lead 29-27 with a minute left on a Kevin Mason to Marvin Harrison bomb. An excessive celebration penalty had Cuse kicking off at the 20 which resulted in a Sooner field goal as time expired. Final 30-29 Sooners. The Dome Foam and heckling of Lee Corso made for a fun evening under the teflon.

The SportHump: Experts on crappy beer and mustaches....these guys are right up our alley. We haven't yet had any Cuse football memories with them, but we are certainly hoping they can join us for an Idiot tailgate party this fall as we discuss the merits of Natural Light vs. Genny Cream Ale.

Each panelist was asked to submit their Top 20 Orange gridders of the HumpIdiot Era. All of us began following Orange football in the early to mid 80's, which marks the beginning of the era. 20 points were assigned for a first place vote, 19 for a second....you get the picture. Beginning tomorrow we'll unveil #20.

Agree, disagree, tell us we're full of crap (which we fully concede)...point out the many ommissions (we know, we know, not a lot of guys from the defensive side of the ball made the list). We hope that looking back at the collection of impressive talent that once made up this program gives you some hope this fall. It really is amazing to see the names that have been on the hill since the early 80's.
