Lane Kiffin has officially been fired as head coach of the Raiders. Let the rumor-mongering and speculation about his next coaching position begin....let's just hope society is strong enough to handle it.

I know Champ is going to disagree with me but I think bringing in Kiffin right now would be a wise move. He is a strong recruiter, and not a bad game day coach, the Raiders have finally started looking like a real team the last three weeks. He- through his own choice- was in a terrible position, but whom amongst you would turn down a HC job in the NFL? Bringing him in here TODAY would salvage a full recruiting season.
A caller on The Axeman's show made an interesting hypothetical. Bring in Kiffen as an interim coach for the remainder of the season. Hey, at the absolute least there'd be more fans in the stands.
Well, Champ any ideas? Ben Schwartzwalder is not walking through that door, Dick MacPherson is not walking through that door... I'd be more than happy to hire a PROVEN coach, but who?
I'd love to see a Northeast guy like George O'Leary, but he'll never get a look due to his resume.
I could live with Gill.
Holtz would give us "name factor" but he'll have his pick of any BCS job this year.
Edsall has proven he can build something and is an alumn.
Right now this is not an ideal job, but if Kool Moe Gross can through some serious cash at someone, we may have a shot. Let's be honest, the Big East is not a juggernaut, you play your cards right and you can be in the BCS every year....that could be attractive.
Nothing against Kiffin personally, I just want NOTHING even remotely connected to USC, GRob or D. Gross.
Gill has done a remarkable job at UB but I thought he took his name out at Nebraska last year, why would he want to head East on the I-90? I know I did it every other weekend for two years but I was at least chasing a winner.
Maybe Edsall is the best choice, hopefully the good Dr. will be able to drum up some alumni cash.
I know Champ, you're down on USC and the good Dr. but I think Kiffin and this program seem like a good fit.

No more NFL guys or anyone with USC/GRob connections.
We've got to have a PROVEN COLLEGE head coach with northeast ties. Screw this thing up again and Syracuse football is dead.
Just my 2 cents.

Turner Gill - making Buffalo even remotely competitive is a miracle, he's proven himself as far as I'm concerned.
I just say Lane Kiffin up on the Hill sitting on a Bench eating some Kenny Rodgers Roasters Chicken. Tell Donnie!

Sorry, long day on the road
I thought he was eating some Sal's Birdland on the kissing bench next to Nancy Cantor who was sipping on a Pepsi.

AJV,
I forgot...a big "Well Done" on the use of the "...not walking through that door" soundbite. Great stuff.
Hope all is well,
Champ
