On my way home from work tonight I was listening to ESPN radio which was playing a clip of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau's press conference announcing the indictment of Plaxico Burress. Since I could care less about the issue, I was only half listening to it, but I couldn't shake the feeling I'd heard that voice before.
Now, having worked in NYS politics for a number of years, I've heard Morgenthau's voice many times before, but that wasn't it. It sounded like something more sports related, and then it hit me - Morgenthau sounds exactly like legendary NY Yankees announcer Bob Sheppard.
Both men have shown amazing career longevity having each managed to carve out 50 plus year careers in the spotlight, both have done it in NY City and both men are named Bob. Coincidence???? Well of course it is, but they still sound the same nonetheless. I wonder if every white male in his 90s who has spent his whole life in NY sounds like this?
Check it out - Morgenthau:
