Obviously the whole world is talking about Tiger Woods, and every person under the sun wants to chime in with their two cents on the matter. I've been following it like as closely as anyone, but didn't feel the need to address it in this space. No one cares what we think about Tiger Woods, and most of the jokes we've heard haven't been that good enough to pass along.
However, Jason Whitlock took the media to task over the whole affair. Before you dismiss it because it's Whitlock (I disagree with many of his opinions, but I still want to hear what he has to say) give it a read. He calls out mainstream media outlets for their coverage on the issue, exposes some hidden agendas and reminds us that the people that bring us the news aren't always as objective as they purport themselves to be. It's worth a read.
Tiger's real crime? Not playing the media's game

Whitlock does make a few good points. He does kinda go Glen Beck a couple of times, like when he writes: "The media are lying to you. They won't tell you their real agenda."
Then again, he does write for FOX Sports so I guess that makes sense...?
That's a great point - he is over the top, but that's kind of his style. I liked the overall point - that these great media figures aren't as objective as you think, which is rare coming from a media member.
However, he is a little outrageous, which drives people to read him - we need to start saying some crazy shit on this blog, it will probably help our pageviews.
I don't really like Jason Whitlock - I think he's obnoxious and usually wrong, but this is a great piece. Talk about scorched earth!
I haven't been paying too much attention to Tiger-crash-mistress-gate, so I didn't realize he was being so heavily criticized. That's lame. Sometimes I gladly participate in America's notorious tearing down of its heroes, but in this case I hate it. Tiger hasn't done nearly enough wrong to deserve this, and people are going way overboard.
The only thing I disagree with is Whitlock's comparison of Tiger to Bonds. Bonds needed to be exposed and taken down because he broke one of the sport's most hallowed records by cheating, not because he is rude to the press.
I used to hate Whitlock, but I've started to come around on him over the years. Some of his stuff is absurd, but he's fearless, and that's what makes him interesting. I totally agree with the point on Bonds - it's nothing like this case at all. I've got no sympathy for that 'roided out, HGH loving cheater.
As usual I always take a different approach. He is a Billionaire golfer that bangs a cocktail hostess and the relationship goes a bit sour. I really don't care about his personal life and these things are always debated in the media. As in all sports, we always overanalyze every little thing that they do. Who cares about steroids, athletes having sex orgies in hotel rooms, sacred recores, etc. It's all entertainment for our pleasure. We all write and talk about them because most of us are envious because we are not on the TV's making a million dollars and we are the first to tear them down when they fail.
*God damn I sounded like Colin Cowherd there. Somebody shoot me.
Poncho Cowherd -
I agree in that I could care less who Tiger is playing hide the sausage with, makes no difference to me.
What I liked about the Whitlock story was the fact that you rarely see a member of the media call out his or her colleagues - and Whitlock didn't just call them out, he gave them the Superfly Snuka body slam.
And I am jealous I'm not a pro athlete? You better believe it. I think the pros discriminate against slow, unathletic white guys who have a "love of the game" like myself. Anyone have Jackie Chiles phone number?
Whitlock is a one trick pony. When all else fails bring out the race card. As for Tigger, he thinks his wealth and popularity should shield him from criticism. He clearly has paid for the silence of the first bimbo. He pays off his wife for fear of a divorce hurting his endorsement deals. Sorry to say but when you cheat on your pregnant wife with little kids at home, your a dick. It's not the media's fault. He should have man'd up from the start.
I guess I should have been more clear -- as far Tiger goes, whatever happens to him, happens to him. He brought it on himself, let the tabloids go crazy.
The part of the whitlock story I thought was accurate was where he called out the mainstream media for preaching about Tiger, when they in fact, have plenty of warts and agendas they won't reveal about themselves.
Funny thing is that while reading this I thought of every Whitlock article I've read and wondered, how can he be the one to call out others for their agendas when ALL OF HIS 'WORK' IS BASED OF THE SAME THING!!! hypocrite much? I hate all media including the big fat whitlock who's been drivng his personal agendas for years. Get real !!
