Connecticut Will Be Calhoun-less Against the Cuse

We here at T3I are not fans of Jim Calhoun. Whether he's bullying people in press conferences, walking all over the floor while berating officials or admitting "someone" could have violated NCAA recruiting rules, we aren't going to be writing to the UConn athletic department requesting autographs any time soon.
(Speaking of which, whatever happened to that investigation anyway? How come every time Yahoo Sports uncovers some alleged wrong-doing, the allegations just hang out there for years and nothing happens? Not sure what I'm talking about? See "Bush, Reggie" and Mayo, O.J.)

That aside, is Calhoun a good coach? Absolutely. He'll go down as one of the best. They don't put people in the hall of fame for nothing (unless your name is Dick Vitale) and Calhoun has a record that almost all of his competitors envy. We also aren't here to wish ill-health on anyone so we hope he makes a quick and full recovery from the medical issues that have forced him to the sidelines for the last six games.

However, those issues will keep Calhoun on the sideline for the Syracuse game on Wednesday. Andy Katz at ESPN says Calhoun remains on indefinite medical leave, so the job will once again be in George Blaney's hands.

For UConn fans this certainly isn't great news since Blaney's secret to beating the zone is wishing really hard that Emeka Okafor would move back to Storrs -- so he's got that going for him, which is nice. Of course it could be worse for UConn, Fred Hill could be the coach. Something tells me Rutgers fans wouldn't mind seeing Freddy go out on an indefinite leave.....
