The news coming out of Philadelphia today that Brian Westbrook has been released wasn't completely surprising, but as a die hard Eagle fan, it's hard nonetheless. While Westy often battled injury problems, when he was on the field he was as explosive as any player in the NFL. Standing just 5'8" the 3rd round draft pick from Villanova was often the most dangerous weapon in a pass first offense on a team that won far more than they lost when he was in the lineup.
It's always hard to see a player as integral as Westbrook move on - and if he's healthy and decides he wants to keep playing, I'm wish him nothing but luck. Farewell number 36, you may be gone, but you'll never be forgotten.
Here he is single handedly beating the Giants. For more Westbrook videos, check out the 700 Level and for some great perspective from a fan, check out the always outstanding Iggles Blog.
Of course, when the great Captain Janks of the Howard Stern wack pack celebrates this big occasion by pranking SportsCenter, you know it's a big moment in time. By the way - how could the screeners at ESPN have fallen for this? I caught it live and it was clear from the second he started talking it was Captain Janks.
