We Believe In: Doug Logan

Continuing in our series of stuff we believe in: the one and only "Voice of the Orange" Doug Logan.

There isn't a Syracuse fan who grew up in the '80s that doesn't remember listening to Doug call play-by-play action on 570 WSYR AM radio back in the day. Nothing got you fired up for a big game like Doug's opening comments to the radio audience, "This...is MAJOR college basketball!"

We're raising a frosty one to you Doug, the true Voice of the Orange.

Whose magic on the typewriter starts things up at Channel 9? You know the answer.

Tri-R-Drugs gets it. Logan = sales

When Doug Logan stopped doing games on the radio, it was a sad day for SU sports. He was a huge homer -- not in the sense of presenting an unbalanced view of the game. It's just that he got so darn excited when SU made a good play. You can't listen to his calls of iconic moments in Orangemen history without getting some chills. A couple years ago I watched on local TV as he was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall Of Fame. He's a class act all the way and a pillar of the community too. I always wished that they would bring him back to do a game once in a while. It hasn't been the same without him.

I sat by Doug Logan on a plane once and he talks as if he is doing play-by-play in a game. He should be doing voice overs for Disney movies. Really nice guy, we shared a few cans of Heineken - US Air style.

I grew up following Orange basketball with Greg "Kid" Kohls on the transistor radio. I still can hear Mareiness today, "Tom Stundis, the Braintree Butcher", Chris "Rocketman" Sease, Chuck "Which way to the NIT" Wichman, "He climbs the invisible ladder for the Rebound", Jimmy "Don't call me Bug" Williams. Logan kind of gave us a more professional homer after he got here from Purdue. The Matt Parks and Dave Ryans, and Dave Tesh all just rolled into each other. Good announcers but not "one of the family" like Mareiness and Logan were. I always wonder if Doug ever regretted deciding between Channel 9 and the Orange. I think in todays arean he could have done both, but back then it was not possible. Anonymous, I remember Bill O'Donnell on the channel 3 news right after Denny Sullivan and Popeye. Bill O'Donnell had the Safeco logo on the set. PS I am not 88 years old, If I was I would be telling you'all about Red PArton doing the NAts games!
