Happy Anniversary Bobby V

The Three Idiots would like to wish former (and possibly future) Met manager Bobby Valentine a happy anniversary. It was on this date in 1999 that Bobby got tossed from a game against the Toronto Blue Jays and then reappeared in the dugout wearing the classic disguise above. The move earned him a 2 game suspension and a $5,000 fine, but in our opinion, it was well worth it. Dave Anderson's NY Times story on the incident, described the fine as such:

"In reality, Valentine was suspended and fined for brazen stupidity -- appearing briefly on the steps below the dugout in a disguise: mustache, sunglasses, a black cap and a black Mets T-shirt, after having been ejected in the 12th inning."

Well God bless brazen stupidity, because if that didn't exist, we wouldn't have anything to write about. Bobby V has been on a hot streak lately, last week he earned his 1,500th win - but nothing will beat his greatest accomplishment - the fake mustache and sun glasses, well done Bobby.

We'd like to thank reader and mental patient Mets fan Res Ipsa for the tip.

Hilarious. The Mets need a manager like this again!

I think the mustache could manage better than Willie at this point.

The lost tragedy in the Bobby V saga...he ended up having to take the fall for Steve Phillips. Ugh.

Good point, sadly though Steve couldn't hang on and now we have the Steve phillips on TV era which is no picnic.
